Learn (http://learn.lboro.ac.uk) |
|
Learn (powered by moodle) (explained in greater detail on the home page) is an out of the box open source software VLE (virtual learning environment) development by the great Martin Dougiamas and friends. The style is based on the Loughborough corporate style designed by Steve Ashurst the design expert at Loughborough. We've implemented tweaks and hacks to customise the VLE and I've written extensive Perl scripts to manage information in the system. The latest improvement we're looking at is enabling WebDAV to manage files and folders. I'm also currently working on an Accessibility widget (featured top left in the adjacent image) and developing it to be retrofitted to moodle installations in the hope other institutions can adopt the tool.

Laura recently commissioned me to work on the first version of thefashionalmanac.com for her final year degree project whilst at Central Saint Martins college London. The site is template driven allowing the easy updating of pages. All graphic design was produced by Laura, I cut out the graphics and coded the site. The website took about 3 days to produce once the final proofs arrived. Laura is currently working to promote The Fashion Almanac whilst contract working on various projects with SHOWstudio. |

Ripon Grammar (http://www.ripongrammar.co.uk) |
|
The Ripon Grammar site I built when I was working in Leicester at Ariam Media. The design was created by my friend and colleague Shaun Taylor. I hand coded the site in Dreamweaver and built specialist PHP includes to display four box sections in the left and right columns:
I designed and built the CMS system for the users at the grammar school to manage the information on the site themselves. By devising a simple but effective way of splitting the site into sections it allowed me to offer the administrators a way of writing articles that would only show up on the sections of the websites they wanted them too. This way information could be written only for one section i.e. Science or for the whole site. |

Select Your Spex (http://www.selectyourspex.com) |
|
Select Your Spex is an e-commerce website built with a heavy emphasis on AJAX and usability. I built the site whilst at Ariam Media and the design was produced by my friend and colleague Shaun Taylor. I built the site with a CMS system to manage both glasses and contacts products. The admin pages allowed uploading of images and managing product information to a very accurate detail. The site has a large amount of validation performed as most of the users of the site will have to input prescription information. The glasses selection page includes an AJAX calculator to add prices of extras on the fly as well as an AJAX shopping basket both which I designed, built and tested. |

Ento Direct (http://www.entodirect.co.uk) |
|
Ento Direct was the first website I did at Ariam. The website was to support the start of a new business delivering support to the business delivering Teaching and Learning qualifications. The site has a few contact forms, one which is populated by user selections from a previous page, as well as a CMS system I created to help Learners on the courses. The CMS has a basic login which works out which level of authority you have then presents you with different options based on your role. There is a nice built in help desk feature which will track Learner queries and allow anyone from the training team to pick up the mail. The system features news updates and user management facilities including mail out features.
